fashion feature friday {vol.12}

August 12, 2011

happy friday, friends!!! i apologize for the lack of fashion features in the last month. school has been crazy, so i haven't had enough time to search. i do, however, have some amazing features coming up for you guys!! like this one...
this week, i'm featuring a new online friend of mine, Mary (aka "Murr")! i disovered this gem on instagram, and from there we quickly became twitter friends, and now email friends! i tell ya, instagram is, for many reasons, my favorite iphone application EVER! this girl is so incredibly sweet, gorgeous, classy, genuine, and just one of those women that you instantly click with! murr's style is chic, girly, very vintage-inspired, yet practical for every day wear...i love it! she has a sweet & beautiful little girl, gemma! she's another one of those momma's who you wonder how the heck they just had a baby a year ago. she looks uh-mazing! she blogs over here about her lovely little family, inspiration, and much more. i love stumbling upon fashionable people, but even more so, mommas who have incredible style. as most of you know, having a kiddo can make you very careless about your style...just throw on the first comfortable thing you can find. murr has been able to keep her style, and man is she stunning! she looks like an adorable 60s model in a vintage seventeen magazine! isn't she just lovely?

please be sure to show her some love! check out her blog, follow, and stay a while perusing through all her lovely pictures. also, if you have instagram, check her out: murrjohnson
1. How would you describe your style? vintage-inspired and a toss between pretty girl & old lady feminine.  I rarely wear jeans, just because I feel much more comfortable and girly in skirts and dresses.
2. Who/what is your biggest style influence? Both of my grandmothers' styles back in the 50's - 70's, they always looked so cute, classy, modest and ultra feminine.
3. What 3 items do you wear often? a vintage slip, any high-waist skirts & a plain t-shirt/button-up.

4. What is your favorite kind of shoe? heels, I love the look of long legs.  If I could wear them everyday I would, unfortunately not every occasion calls for heels - for example, chasing after a 1 year old... or walking the tight rope.

5. How do you piece together your outfits? I think it depends on my mood & how much time I'm allowed. Normally I start out with a statement piece and work everything else around that.  There are mornings where our bedroom floor is completely covered by pile after pile of rejected clothes.

6. What are your favorite places to shop? A handful of thrift & vintage clothing stores in the area.  If I'm looking for something specific I'll do a little online shopping at Etsy, ModCloth, Ruche, UO or Anthropologie.  I really dislike malls and try to avoid them at all costs.

7. Favorite beauty products? Bumble and Bumble hair products, Pixi eyeshadows & blush,  Essie nail polish - my current go-to colour is Cute as a Button.

8. If you could give one piece of style advice, what would it be?
First off, no one's style is completely unique.  It's all been done before in some shape or form.  That doesn't mean you should make your style & wardrobe a carbon copy of someone else's, just be inspired.  They got their inspiration from someone else, just like someone will get their inspiration from you.  :)

Here's my advice (& i have to agree with tieka):  Try on everything.  If something looks appealing, try it on!!  Some of my favourite pieces I own are ones I never thought I could pull off or pieces that had no hanger appeal.  You never know what will look good on you.

9. Favorite fashionable movie? That Touch of Mink, I would wear every outfit Doris Day wore in that movie - she is one of the classiest & cutest women to ever enter Hollywood!  Oh, and one of my all time favourite TV shows, Get Smart (made in the 60s), I love all of Agent 99's darling mod styles!

10.  Tell us 3 random things about yourself…
I could live off Swedish Fish for the rest of my life.
I'm teaching myself Japanese (& attempting to teach myself how to play the piano!)
I was in the US Air Force.

What fun! Thanks so much Ivelisse. You're such a gem & I'm so honoured to be featured.  Cheers! - Murr
