thifted on thursday

May 26, 2011

today, i had such a blast with my little lady! we went to a close-by ranch and got to feed all the farm animals. it was tons of fun. she loved every minute, as i expected (more on this later). on the way home, as a vintage hoarder that i am, i decided to stop at a thrift store...why not? i have to say i'm quite smitten with my finds today. for under $10, here's what i snagged!

  1. long ruffled floral dress: $2.14
  2. plaid dress/jumper: $1.64
  3. pastel floral dress: $2.14
  4. bongo high-waisted denim shorts: $1.64
  5. 4 small plates: $.05 each = $.20 total...whaaa?
  6. floral mug: $.20
  7. full size baby car seat (for julianna's dolls; not shown) $1.01
with tax, a grand total of $9.64! um, what's not to love about thrifting?!
i only buy items that are the "color of the day"...if you are not a thrifter and want to know what this means, let me know and i'll share my secret! ;)

added: okay since several of you have asked, here it is...most thrift stores have a "color of the day," which means that any item you buy with that color tag, is usually 50% off and sometimes just $.99 (i love these). most of the time, housewares are not included in this deal, this pertains to clothes mainly. because i've accumulated so much stuff at this point, i only buy the color of the day. with the stuff being cheap as it is, this makes it even cheaper. i use this method because i know i don't need the stuff, i just want it. i do break my rule once in a while if i know the item is worth a lot or if i need something for an occasion. otherwise, i try to not even look at anything that is not the "color of the day." you have to pay attention to the sign up front or ask when you walk in. the bigger chains like goodwill and salvation army always have a color of the day. hope that helps and happy thrifting!!

sidenote: stay tuned for tomorrow's fashion feature. she is adorbs, of course!
